• The We Can Achieve Awards program on March 26, 2012 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the Druid Heights Community Center located at 2140 McCulloh Street. 23 young people will be recognized for successfully completing Phase 1 of a ten week training program. • St. Martin Church of Christ will celebrate Dr. Kevin Daniels 13 Years of Ministry and Community Service on Sunday, March 18, 2012. The church is located at 2118 Madison Avenue. 11:30 a.m. and 5:00 pm. Services. All are Invited to the celebrations.

Residents packed the community room to “Get to know Their Elected Officials.” In attendance were Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, State Senator Verna Jones-Rodwell, Delegate Keith Haynes, Delegate Melvin Stukes, Delegate Keiffer Mitchell, Councilman Bill Cole, Councilman Nick Mosby and Doc Cheatham of the Maryland Democratic Central Committee. Each representative was asked to share their birth date, their goals for the year that will benefit this community and to explain how redistricting will impact the neighborhood.

The theme of the meeting was “Get to Know Your Elected Officials”. A special tribute was given to Officer Robert Horne of the Central District for his service and commitment to the Druid Heights community. Two years ago, Officer Horne was assigned to the Druid Heights community as the Community Officer. His role is to bridge the gap between the residents, community organizations and the Baltimore City Police Department. He also works with refugees who have relocated to America and helps them to understand their rights in this country while assisting them to overcome cultural and language barriers. Officer Horne is friendly and personable, and he exemplifies integrity in his daily walk and service. Mr. and Mrs. William and Virginia Horne, his parents, were at the meeting to witness the Award for Service presented by Druid Heights CDC. Ms. Ray Hall and Ms. Tamara Harvey from the Baltimore City Board of Elections were on hand to register people to vote. The agenda also allotted time for OYO Traditions Cultural Arts Institute to highlight the fifteen families who received energy saving products in their homes. Funding was provided by the Community Energy Savings Grant Program / The Department of General Services and the Office of Sustainability. Mr. Roscoe Johnson III, Director of Real Estate Development for DHCDC, gave a brief update on the commercial and real estate development initiatives taking place in the community.
